Dr. Morton’s Primer Scale and Apreggio Fingerings was written to prepare inexperienced players for the more “professional” fingerings of the Miraculous fingering books. It utilizes open strings, keep shifts to a minimum, and stays in lower positions: usually first, half, or second position when possible. There is only one fingering for each scale. The keys are arranged in ascending chromatic order. For the keys from E to A, there are two one-octave fingerings, and one two-octave fingering. All higher keys extend only one octave. Fingerings that require a shift are indicated with a large, bold number. Those that do not are notated with a small, fine number. This book will acquaint new players with the sound and construction of major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and chromatic scales; and with major, minor, and dominant seventh arpeggios in all keys.
